Principal’s Message

Welcome to Gilmore Community School’s website!

At Gilmore Community School our mission is to build a thriving community. Our motto is: Safe, Kind and Fair. By teaching students about expectations for different zones in our school, staff are building safe, kind and fair awareness for all. Before students can learn, they need to be able to negotiate the social environment of school. One psychologist in child development, Dr. Ross Greene, advocates that, “Kids do well if they can.” If a child struggles, Dr. Greene attributes it to lagging skills in critical areas like flexibility, frustration tolerance, problem-solving, and emotion regulation. Our team at Gilmore strives to support students in identifying lagging skills and support all students in advocating for their needs, managing strong emotions, and learning to regulate themselves as learners.

Being a Community School, we are fortunate to have a Community School Coordinator and Community School secretary. They support our community by planning and sending out weekly bulletins to families about the events that will happen in our school the following week. We have a strong parent community, with members volunteering time to support our hot lunch programs and other fundraising initiatives to enrich the experiences for all of our students. All members of our catchment can participate in the once-a-month Community Council meetings (usually the first Tuesday of the month in the Community Room). To learn more about Gilmore’s Community Council go here: https://gilmorecouncil.ca/.

At Gilmore, we believe in academic excellence, the pursuit of knowledge and skills, and in developing a positive attitude that leads to life-long learning. We believe that learning is both an individual and a social process that requires active participation in a safe and caring environment. Staff strive to create relationships with students and facilitate active learning.

Parents are partners in education, and we value the time, effort, feedback and support of our parent community. Please explore our website to learn more about our school and members of the Gilmore community, as well as updates that may be of interest. Notices from the office will be emailed by Communications Gilmore. If you would like additional information beyond what is available online, please contact us at the school directly via email or phone.

We look forward to working with your family.

Kindly,

Mrs. Lisa Pitt

Principal of Gilmore Community & Rosser Elementary Schools
